A fair deal for Devon should be the priority for all candidates over the 100 days according to former Teignbridge MP Richard Younger-Ross.

Mr Younger-Ross, who is seeking to win back the Newton Abbot seat for the Liberal Democrats, points to the lack of fair Government funding across services in the South West as a major cause of the peninsulas economic problems.

"Devon and other South West counties have lost out to Government funding and will continue to lose out unless we unite and say enough is enough. On this issue we must put our differences aside, we must fight as one. Funding for the NHS, schools, transport and local Government should be higher than the average as the cost of running services in rural remote areas is greater than in the cosy South East. Our earnings to housing cost ratio is also greater than most other parts of the UK, making problems even worse. Devon needs a fair deal on May 8th.

"We should also reject calls for regional pay in the NHS, our nurses work as hard as any nurse in Kent so why should our nurses be paid less as.

"The lack of capital investment in the past most also be addressed, from Transport to the Arts, from Schools to the NHS the South West has lost out, that lack of investment must now rectified with priority being given to capital projects in the county.

"A fair deal for public services will boost the private sector in Devon, creating jobs and wealth across the county."
