Local Action from Newton Abbot Cllrs

Ashburton RD Brambles Jackie B

Today Cllr Jackie Brodie (pictured) and Cllr Gordon Hook with the help of a local resident cleared the hanging vegetation and brambles from the corner of Coombeshead Rd and Ashburton Rd in Newton Abbot. Jackie had spent some time trying to find who owned this small area of land surrounded by high walls on one side and a fence on the other. It seems no one wants to claim ownership, and she drew a blank with Devon County Council, Teignbridge District Council and Teign Housing. Devon County Council came and took a look, but declared that unless people had to stoop down for a considerable length of the pavement or were forced in to the road by vegetation, they didn't consider it a safety hazard and therefore would not be coming to clear the brambles. So having exhausted all avenues for action by public bodies, we decided to get out and cut it back ourselves. We must also thank the resident of 2 Ashburton Rd who provided gardening gloves and allowed us to put the brambles and plant waste in his green bin. If you think a piece of land near you falls into the same category and the owner is not known, please contact us and we will attempt to find the owner. In the meantime if you need some help tidying up such a piece of land please get in touch.
