MP Slams County For Cutting Road Safety Scheme
The Bishopsteignton Enhancement Group says it is dismayed to learn that Devon County Council have pulled out of a project to enhance the village centre. One member of the group, Roger Hunt commented "it is very disappointing that having got as far as we had, the funding has now been withdrawn."
The scheme to substantially improve the junction of Fore Street and Bishops Avenue came out of the Parish Council-led Village Plan and has overwhelming support from local residents.
Devon County Council agreed to fund a significant part of the scheme, some £120,000 as long as the group secured the rest which they have done - raising £100,000 mainly from Teignbridge District Council and Bishopsteignton Parish Council.
Now Teign MP Richard Younger-Ross has written to Devon County in support of the scheme asking them to reconsider their decision. "A lot of work and money has gone into this project from all sides of the partnership with officers at Devon helping produce an enhancement scheme that went out to extensive public consultation. I am urging them to reconsider a scheme that villagers believe will have environmental, economic and safety benefits."
